What He Says......

If you haven't already, take the time to read David Corn's analysis of last nights speeches:

He makes a very important point regarding the political discourse:

But leave it to Bill Clinton, the political master. In a home-run of a speech, he showed how the Democrats could engage in devastating Bush-bashing while smiling and not becoming disagreeable, shrill or discourteous.

Corn continues:

He remarked that Kerry and Bush were "two strong men who both love their country." But with wit and passion, he sliced Bush to bits. "We Democrats will bring the American people a positive campaign," Clinton said at the start of his speech, "arguing not who's good and who's bad, but what is the best way to build the safe, prosperous world our children deserve."

This has been a theme I've heard Clinton mention several times.  You can go after the idea, without denigrating the person.  It's actually a simple "golden rule" thing that is easy to forget in the passions of the political arena.

Say what you will amongst those of like mind.  But when dealing in the general population, I think it's important for Dems to demonstrate class.  This doesn't mean being passive.  You can be assertive, countering opposing views, without being an asshole.

Being "on message" is important.  Maybe, just maybe, being "on process" is just as important?
